Interim Meeting: Color in Urban Life


Starting October 18th through October 22nd, 2016, we will discuss “Color in Urban Life: Images, Objects and Spaces”.

The aim of AIC2016 Interim Meeting is to share experiences regarding the use of color in images, objects and spaces, from different perspectives and disciplines. All of these to contribute to a better user experience and to improve life quality in our cities.




Louisa Hutton:
Architect and founding partner of Sauerbruch Hutton, an award-winning international practice based in Berlin. She is a Royal Academician of Arts, a member of the Curatorial Board of the Erich Schelling Architecture Foundation and was a Visiting Professor at Harvard Graduate School of Design. At the AIC2016, Louisa will present a Keynote Speech and a workshop. More information soon!

Verena M. Schindler:
Art and architectural historian (Zollikon), affiliated with Atelier Cler Etudes Chromatiques (Paris), a researcher on colour in art and a co-author of the book Farb-Systeme 1611-2007 (Colour Systems 1611-2007) published in 2009. Her activities are mainly focused on colour in architecture, urbanism and the environment, the history of colour systems, colour in art and colour in cross-cultural contexts. Natacha Le Duff:
Cultural mediator for the city of Berlin and at the GDR Museum. Leader of the Museum of Colours, a project which crystallises around her personal and professional experiences. She also studied Political Sciences and graduated with a Master in Cultural Management. Since conceiving of the Museum, she has mobilised a community around the project and started developing museographic and scenographic aspects of the Museum. To focus her approach, Natacha initiated an exhibition about the colours of Berlin, from which she will give a Keynote Presentation at the AIC2016. More information soon!
Felipe Taborda:
Graphic designer from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A graduate of Rio’s Catholic University, he studied cinema and photography at the London International Film School (England), Communication Arts at the New York Institute of Technology and Graphic Design at the School of Visual Arts (USA). A professor at UniverCidade/RJ, he has had his own office since 1990, working mainly in the cultural, publishing and recording areas. His works appears in the books Graphic Design for the 21st Century – 100 of the World’s Best Graphic Designers (Taschen). More information soon!
La Nueva Gráfica Chilena:
This Chilean graphic collective will be presenting the work developed during last years that brings together a compilation and a deep research about Latin-American’s graphics designs and visuality. These works are connected to the diversity of actions and events of Latin- American’s parties and celebration. Spontaneous and popular graphics designs developed by self-taught authors blooming in the streets of the continent. The common point in this research has been the particular presence and use of colour in these expressions, setting a unique skin that becomes identity. See their website. More information soon!
Carol B. Derov:
Manager Global Color & Design Marketing for the Latin America Coatings Division of the Sherwin-Williams Company. A Summa cum Laude graduate of Ohio University, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She is responsible for all color support to company-owned stores, and assists affiliates worldwide with color systems, country-specific color palettes, design trends, color merchandising, training and new business development. Carol also tracks and forecasts Latin American color trends and design influences for the coatings industry, creating and giving color presentations to architects and designers internationally. Patricia Fecci:
Is part of the Board of Directors for Color Marketing Group (CMG) and is the liaison for Latin America. Marketing Manager for Tinted Products and Color Services for the Brazilian subsidiary of The Sherwin-Williams Company.  Her job includes the responsibility for tinted products and color management for use in controlled distribution, as well as home centers and paint dealers. She also assists with color systems, Brazilian color palettes and merchandising, tracks design trends, and manages all technical aspects of color tinting, including team training. Patrícia has completed many projects in Brazil during her 17 years in the company, and now oversees color projects in Argentina and Chile as well. More information soon!  


From October 19th to 22nd

A Color Film Series will be displayed as part of the AIC2016 Interim Meeting, in the Centro de Extensión UC. These films will provide observation and discussion about the role of color in the audiovisuals. Jaime Cordova, academic, and director of the Festival de Cine Recobrado de Valparaíso, will present a lecture about color application in cinema from its origins.

Color Textil (Textile Color) is an exhibition that gathers the artworks of some of the most important contemporary Chilean textile artists.

The exhibition was curated by Paola Moreno and Rodrigo Galecio. Color is the unifier element between the selected artists, and the textile pieces are the places where they meet.

The artists invited to this exhibition are Andrea Barrios, Catalina Bauer, Mónica Bengoa, Paulina Brugnoli, Josefina Concha, Daniela Contreras, Inge Dusi, Andrea Fischer, Nury González, Carolina Irarrázaval, Mariana Kaplun, Paola Moreno, Johanna Unzueta, Constanza Urrutia, Carolina Varela and Patricia Velasco.

Theory of Color: systems, models, and color charts:
At the end of the workshop, participants will have learned about color order systems through history, from the Middle Ages to the present, in their historical and cultural context, including key scientific and artistic insights. Color Education Workshop: Didactical Demostrations about Color:
The purpose of this workshop is to provide teaching aids about color, to school art teachers. Album Cover Design:
This workshop is focused into the development of creativity in connection with music and graphic design, for the creation of album covers. Authors who have received the notification of acceptance for Oral or Poster presentation must send their Full Paper by 15th July, to the email, indicating in the subject the submission ID number of the accepted abstract.

Accepted abstracts with at least one registered author per submission will be included in the AIC2016 Interim Meeting Book of Proceedings.

Oral presentations will be 15 minutes long and should include visual aids. The definitive AIC2016 Programme with the final information about the Oral Sessions and schedules will be published by August 10th.

Poster presentations are a graphic form to share works. Posters have to be presented as a single sheet (portrait format, F4 size: 90×128 cm, full color). Posters will be on display at the AIC2016 Poster Sessions.

The definitive AIC2016 Programme with the final information about the Poster Sessions and schedules will be published by August 10th. The authors will be required to attend to allocated sessions to discuss their work.
